Which class of certificate do you need?
The FAA requires different classes of medical certificates depending on the type of flying you plan to do. Dr. Zaid is a Senior AME authorized to perform all three classes including the most demanding Class I exam.

CLASS I
Airline Transport PilotRequired for Airline Transport Pilots (ATP). The most stringent medical standards of all three classes. Certificate validity: 12 months if under age 40 ✓ Dr. Zaid is a Senior AME authorized for Class I |
CLASS II
Commercial PilotRequired for Commercial Pilots, Flight Engineers, Flight Navigators, and Air Traffic Control Tower Operators. Certificate validity: 12 months as Class II Standards are stricter than Class III but less demanding than Class I. |
CLASS III

Where can I get an FAA aviation medical exam in Oakland County, Michigan?

What is the difference between a Senior AME and a regular AME?
A Senior AME has additional FAA authorization and experience. Most importantly, a Senior AME can perform Class I medical exams required for Airline Transport Pilots. Not all AMEs are authorized for Class I exams — Dr. Zaid’s Senior designation means he can perform all three classes of FAA medical certificate exams.
How do I prepare for my FAA aviation medical exam?
Before your exam, complete your MedXPress application at the FAA website — your AME will need your confirmation number. Bring photo ID, glasses or contacts if you use them, and a list of all medications. If you have any of the 20 special issuance conditions listed above, contact us before completing your MedXPress to arrange a consultation — we have 14 days to submit your exam once the application is downloaded.
Can I still fly if I have a medical condition?
Many pilots with medical conditions can still obtain a medical certificate through the FAA Special Issuance process. Conditions such as diabetes, sleep apnea, cardiac history, and certain psychiatric conditions can often be accommodated with proper documentation and monitoring. A pre-exam consultation with Dr. Zaid is the best first step to understand your options before committing to an exam.
Do you offer virtual consultations for pilots?
Yes. We offer both video and in-person consultations for $100 each. These are particularly valuable if you have a complex medical history or a Special Issuance condition and want to review your situation before your exam. The goal is to ensure your process is smooth and you arrive prepared.
What airports do you serve?
We are conveniently located near several general aviation airports including Oakland County International (PTK), Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), Ann Arbor Municipal Airport (ARB), and Waterford Airport (KOMN). Our Novi location on W. Ten Mile Road is easily accessible from all of these airports.
How long does an aviation medical exam take?
A routine aviation medical exam typically takes 30 to 45 minutes. The exam includes vision and hearing tests, blood pressure measurement, a urinalysis, and a physical examination. If you have special issuance conditions or a complex history, the process may take longer — which is why we recommend a consultation beforehand.
